Leroy Vickers performs opera, classical theatre and a mix of powerful contemporary ballads to audiences throughout Europe.
The power of his voice, his stage presence and overall performance is amazing and he receives standing ovations wherever he performs.
Born in Hull in 1982 Leroy was schooled at his local comprehensive, and faced issues with an unsettled home life and bullying. Unusually Leroy found a love for Shakespeare, when he studied Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet, which led him into a new world where he began to explore opera and the classics.
At the same time he developed a love of sport, with Michael Jordan as his role-model throughout his early teens. Leroy’s dedication to basketball at this age prepared him for the rigours of vocal training and theĀ discipline he would later need to perfect and protect his singing voice.
At 16-18yrs he was part of a boy band and regularly performed around Hull to audiences of over 4,000.
At 18 he formed his own four piece male harmony group, performing at various venues and entering talent contests around the UK.
At 20 he first performed Music of the Night, but over the next two years he put his career on hold as he cared for his mum, who later died from cancer when he was 21 (2004). He was devastated by her death and it took a while to get back on track. Luckily he met his wife Caroline, who is a singer and dancer herself and she has encouraged him to sing again, in particular opera and musical theatre.
In 2006 he was invited to be part of a classical pop quartet – as seen on Classic FM TV. In 2008 the group won the Blackpool ‘Talk of the Coast’ talent competition.
In 2007 he was asked to perform Music of the Night and Nessun Dorma at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London and received a standing ovation.
After Pavarotti died in September 2007, Leroy worked with John Michael Mackfall to put together a song as a tribute to this great man. John wrote Luciano and Leroy translated some of the lyrics in to Italian. Credit to John for producing such a great song.
Listen to Luciano, a tribute to the late Luciano Pavarotti, who has been a inspiration for Leroy to follow a career in opera:
